Vietnam Regains Top Spot as Rice Exporter with Higher Prices

Vietnam’s rice export prices reclaim top spot in global market

In the global market, Vietnamese rice prices have risen by US$3 to US$8 per ton, helping Vietnam regain its position as the top exporter of rice in terms of price, according to a report by the Vietnam News Agency citing the Vietnam Food Association. Currently, Vietnam’s 5 per cent broken rice is priced at US$585 per ton, which is higher than Thailand’s by US$3 per ton and Pakistan’s by US$10 per ton.

The Vietnam Food Association also reported that Vietnam’s 25 per cent broken rice is priced at US$555 per ton, while 100 per cent broken rice is priced at US$470 per ton. In the first four months of this year, Vietnam earned US$2.08 billion from exporting 3.23 million tons of rice, marking a 36.5 percent increase in value and an 11.7 percent increase in volume compared to the same period last year.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam’s rice output is projected to reach 43 million tons by 2024, which will be sufficient to meet both domestic consumption needs and export demand of more than 8 million tons. The growth and potential for expansion in the Vietnamese rice industry continue on a global scale.
