Protecting Nantucket’s Economy and Community: Why You Should Vote YES on Article 59

Nantucket Current | The Fate of Our Economy and Community Rests in the Balance

As a journalist who deeply understands the importance of short-term rentals to Nantucket’s economy and community, I urge all residents to vote YES on Article 59 at the upcoming Town Meeting on May 7.

Short-term rentals play a crucial role in preserving our community, providing a lifeline for many families who otherwise couldn’t afford to maintain their properties. As an architectural firm owner and property owner myself, I have seen firsthand the significant impact that short-term rentals can have on our island’s economy and community.

The threat posed by those who want to restrict property owner rights is significant, and we cannot let the interests of a privileged few jeopardize the livelihoods of many families and the very core of our community. Article 59 is not just about protecting short-term rentals but safeguarding the foundation of our island’s economy and the financial stability of our residents.

Tourism has been a saving grace for our island’s economy since the end of whaling, sustaining us for nearly two centuries. It is crucial that we come together to support Article 59 to ensure the continued prosperity of Nantucket for future generations.

I urge each and every one of you to stand with me and vote YES on Article 59 at the Town Meeting on May 7. Our collective future is on the line, and we cannot afford to ignore the high stakes.
