More than 560 people poisoned from eating bread in Vietnam

In Long Khanh City, more than 500 people were hospitalized after consuming bread contaminated with E.coli bacteria. The outbreak occurred on April 30 at a bakery in Xuan Binh ward. The shop owner sold 1,100 loaves of bread that day, leading to numerous cases of poisoning.

The most severe case involved a six-year-old boy in a coma at Children’s Hospital 1 in Ho Chi Minh City. Another seven-year-old child was also hospitalized and showed signs of improvement. The investigation into the poisoning has been transferred to the police, and if no criminal liability is found, the city will handle administrative violations accordingly.

The symptoms of E.coli poisoning include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Samples of food from the bakery have been collected for testing to determine the exact cause of the contamination. As of May 6, more than 200 patients have been discharged from the hospital and 119 cases are being monitored at home, with only a few mild cases going to the hospital for monitoring.
